Hello my scrappy lovers and welcome to Scrapbook Memories, a web portal dedicated to scrapbooking. I’ve been a fan of scrapbooking for as long as I can remember and after annoying the heck out of my friends and family about scrapbooking I thought that starting a website was the only healthy way to get scrapbooking out of my system, 🙂 . I’m John Flemming from Elizabeth, New Jersey and I’ve been making scrapbooks ever since I was in primary school. Very first scrapbook that I made was with the help from my mom and ever since then I thought that scrapbooks are an excellent way how to preserve memories. Scrapbooking isn’t the only hobby of mine though. I’m also a hobby photographer, which is I guess normal for scrapbookers. I’m also a huge nerd for tech, smartphones, and things like high-quality drones. That last part is actually the reason why I’d like to recommend you this blog in case you’re looking to buy your first drone, or any other RC toy. Be smart and don’t make a mistake I made by buying a (too) expensive drone for your first time and eventually crashing it.

How I got into scrapbooking

Looking back I think that it was my mom who gave me the scrapbooking bug. She would frequently create scrapbooks using family photos, drawings from my sister and me, stuff that she cut out of magazines and things that she herself would draw, doodle, etc. She didn’t have the kind of high quality drones and smartphone cameras that we have today, but her creations were always some of the best scrapbooks that I have seen. Not that my own scrapbooks aren’t any good, it’s just they are a different from what I saw my mom do. That’s the story how I got hooked on scrapbooking. To make a long story short, it’s my moms fault, 🙂 . But don’t worry, my sister isn’t at all interested in scrapbooking, so my mom raised at least one kid to be normal.

Scrapbooking, are you serious?

I know what most of you reading this will probably say. Why would you scrapbook in this day and age, when there’s social media, various apps for digital scrapbooking and what not. It’s not that I’m some kind of digital hermit who is against everything modern, don’t get me wrong. Scrapbooking for me is something very personal, and I just don’t think that I will be able to adequately capture the kind of emotional sentiment and have creative freedom if I would rely solely on digital scrapbooking.

Creative freedom is the key thing here. I mean check out this video above and tell me if you could do these kinds of things with some software or app. With digital scrapbooking, you are limited to create your scrapbooks with whatever tools author of the program or app that you use has setup and offered it up for the user. For me, this is very limiting and that’s why I just don’t prefer using digital scrapbooking for my projects. From time to time I will use digital tools, programs, apps, in order to scrapbook, but for more serious projects I need to dust off my trusty scrapbooking toolbox.

Scrapbooking as a way of preserving memories

For me, the whole charm of making scrapbooks is that you get to organize and save precious moments, or in other words, preserve memories. I’m not talking about making scrapbooks of that time when you went out with your girlfriends to the club and had a good time. Although you could also make scrapbooks of that, 🙂 . What I’m talking about is making memorable moments like the birth of a child, wedding, special birthdays (one-year-old) and many other special occasions like that featured in a scrapbook. That’s what scrapbooking is all about for me.

Tools of the trade

Earlier I mentioned that I have a scrapbooking toolbox that I use to create my scrapbooks. I don’t want to go into too much detail cause I think that I’m already blabbering on too much and boring you as it is. Two things in my toolbox, my high-quality Syma drone and my trusts camera I’ve already mentioned. Other tools that I have included the usual stuff I guess, scissors, glue, Over the years it has grown to be quite big and it’s nothing special really. There I have usual tools like scissors, glue, papier-mache, colorful paper sheets, stripes, sequences, various decorations, etc. I’ll be talking about the rest of the tools that I use in future posts on the website here, so stay tuned.

Join me on my journey

The whole reason for me starting this website was so that other people can join me on my scrapboking adventures. I love scrapboking with friends in real life and I sort of hope that with this website one day I’ll have a huge number of friends who will give me ideas, take advice from me, or who I’ll make interested in scrapbooking. Here on Scrapbook Memories I’ll talk about my projects, give scrapboking tips, talk about my process and more. Join me and we’ll all learn, have fun and create amazing scrapbooks. Tootles.
